In February 2025, a rare sighting of a deep-sea angler fish near the ocean’s surface captivated the world. Many saw it as a symbol of emerging from darkness into light, representing resilience, curiosity and the pursuit of the unknown. Now, you can bring that symbolism to life on canvas.
Angler fish are known for creating their own light in the depths of the ocean. In this painting, they are rising from the midnight zone to witness a light beyond their own. This piece plays with contrast, mystery and transformation.
In this session, you’ll explore blending techniques to create a rich, atmospheric background that captures the mysterious depths of the ocean. Then, we’ll play with bright pops of fluoro colour to highlight the angler fish’s glowing lure, adding a striking contrast that makes your painting shine bright.

In-studio Public Session Booking Policy
We understand things happen and you can’t always plan in advance. That’s why we offer to re-book your session if you tell us ahead of time. Follow the link in your Booking Confirmation email should you need to re-book.
There is no fee to re-book when doing so at least 48 hours prior to the session start time. Re-booking requests made after this time attract a $20 fee, per seat. Re-bookings are processed as store credit: you’re able to book a new session straight away or plan again another time.
